Student Financial Services and Cashiering (SFSC) is seeking a dynamic, highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Workday Functional Lead for the Workday Student Financials domain. This is a full-time permanent position in SFSC.
The Functional Lead is responsible for driving decisions related to design, configuration, and testing of business processes, as well as providing policy recommendations and business requirements for the Workday configuration. This includes tuition and fee assessment, external charges, student billing, third-party billing, student refunds, payment methods (payment plans, ACH, credit card, 529, tuition remission and international), application of payment, collections, 1098-T reporting and outside scholarships.
This position will be a part of the Workday Student implementation team but will retain formal reporting within SFSC. As part of a broader cross-functional implementation team, the Functional Leads will collaborate and coordinate with key Elevate team members to meet program deadlines and deliverables overseen by Elevate Program governance. They will also convey and represent the needs and requirements of their business unit.
This role reports to the Associate Controller, SFSC, and works closely with other Functional Leads, the Student Product Owner, and the Student Financials Analyst. Following the Workday Student implementation the incumbent will serve as a member of the SFSC leadership team and provide support to SFSC staff and department users, evaluate upgrades, operationalize changes, support configurations, lead continuous process improvements, collaborate with DIT, and provide guidance as the Student Financials Workday expert. This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of university services.

Learn Workday Student processes & functionality:
Gain expert level knowledge of the Student Financials domain.
Understand and provide current state context to future state designs:
Be a change agent who advocates for change when there are opportunities to improve the current state while meeting UMD policy and operational requirements. Work with SFSC leadership and campus SMEs to understand current state and develop a vision for future state design. Partner with the Analyst(s) to document requirements for integrations within the functional area and outbound data feeds.
Facilitate requirements gathering from campus:
Lead campus team(s) in reviewing Workday design options and providing direction. Review and update decision documents. Facilitate discussions to capture needs for process, data, integrations, and reports with campus.
Drive functional decisions for functional area within the project team:
Partner with Workday consultant/s and Analyst(s) to provide direction and input into the configuration of Workday. Partner with the Security Lead to review and confirm that security roles will meet the functional area and stakeholder needs. Facilitate collaboration across functional areas and stakeholders. Document all decisions and prepare detailed decision recommendation documents.
Validate data for data conversion:
Provide functional perspective for the data conversion mapping sessions about what is needed, why and when. Work with the data conversion team to do data verifications. Provide guidance on data mapping decisions that support functional/business direction.
Gather, document, and execute test scenarios:
Execute testing scenarios, record results, document defects and re-test scenarios to resolution.
Prepare training materials:
Work with training staff to prepare training materials for SFSC and department users. Conduct training with campus per the training plan.
