Job Description

This position is approximately 30 hours per month.

JOB SUMMARY
The Disproportionality Coach will support the implementation of MTSS structures, school-specific action plans, data collection, progress monitoring and coordination of CCEIS efforts and personnel at the school level in collaboration with the MTSS School Climate Coach, administration and school team. The Disproportionality Coach will assist in planning professional development and coaching conversations. The Disproportionality Coach will gather data and maintain accurate records as it relates to measuring progress of the CCEIS Plan items to address behavior/discipline and over-identification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with the Department of Special Education to identify those effective instructional and best practices that maximize student behavioral and academic achievement.
  • Partners with schools to align discipline interventions with teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates and supports the implementation of disproportionality-related actions plans and efforts with school teams and within classrooms.
  • Incorporates, as necessary, MTSS and other program strategies to assist schools with specific interventions.
  • Works closely with principals/school team to analyze data; identify areas of concern; support, plan, and coordinate appropriate intervention.
  • Serve as a resource to principals and school teams.
  • Support, plan, and coordinate school specific professional development and/or coaching related to referrals, suspensions and disproportionality reduction. .
  • Keeps current with evidence-based research and best practices that reduce referrals, suspensions and disproportionality.
  • Provides monthly discipline updates to monitoring team. Informs administration when additional supports are needed and facilitates supportive response actions. Gathers data and maintains accurate records.
  • Attends and actively participates in school team meetings, and staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding disproportionality. May serve on special committees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
  • Five (5) years successful teaching experience, preferably at at the elementary/secondary level required.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work with multiple school teams.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and apply cognitive, instructional and technical coaching skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to support a team that works collaboratively to address issues of disproportionality.
  • In-depth knowledge of AACPS programs, policies and practices.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks as well as the initiative to anticipate needs and respond accordinglyy.
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills to gain support across school teams.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
