Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The Welshhans Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina is seeking a Research Specialist to work on NIH-funded studies examining the local translation of mRNAs in axons during neural development. Under the PI’s general supervision, the individual will assist our research program, which examines cellular and molecular mechanisms of neural development in health and disease (e.g., Down syndrome). Responsibilities will include assisting with primary mouse neuronal cultures, human induced pluripotent stem cell cultures, maintenance of mouse colonies, and administrative duties. The individual will also perform experiments using molecular and cellular techniques. Any individual with the minimum qualifications below is welcome to apply, including candidates interested in gaining research experience before applying to graduate or medical school or pursuing careers in biomedical research at academic, pharmaceutical, or biotech institutions.
