Job Description

A Day in the Life of a Performance Improvement Specialist:

The Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist identifies, plans, and executes improvement projects throughout Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, and delivers successful results and spread changes across the entire system. The PI Specialist employs and teaches LEAN philosophy and management tools to support organizational goals while coaching leaders and front-line staff in successful change management.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:

  • Facilitates Performance Improvement projects across the organization.
  • Coordinates, develops, and designs performance improvement projects for the Cheyenne Regional healthcare system; leads performance improvement project teams from the development of project charters through completion of projects.
  • Utilizes Lean and project management methodologies to catalyze the management and delivery of projects focused on improving processes and performance.
  • Facilitates multiple projects, assists in development of staff, and plays a key role in influencing change within and across hospital departments.
  • Ensures the success of the Bright Idea program by researching, testing, and validating novel ideas using the PDSA structure.
  • Presents findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Integrates Change Management principles and tools with Lean project milestones.
  • Develops educational modules, instructs, and mentors hospital employees in use of advanced Lean tools and methodologies, encouraging staff to attend the Lean Fundamentals Workshop.
  • Promotes and integrates Lean methodologies throughout the facility and into its strategic plan.
  • Identifies and monitors current PI projects and trends within the hospital proactively and ensures they meet current healthcare improvement standards.
  • Analyzes current workflows and determines appropriateness of performance improvement initiatives.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of PI concepts and foundations of Lean, including data collection, statistical analysis, and intensive improvement events
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgement and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of patient care and public health
  • Written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relations with patients, staff, leaders, and other customers
  • Knowledge of various computer programs, including Epic, Microsoft office products, especially Excel and Word
  • Excellent ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative data with analytical problem-solving and the use of statistical process control (SPC) charts
  • Strong skills in gathering and analyzing patient data
  • Ability to effectively utilize change management concepts and tools
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse cultural and socio-economic populations

Here Is What You Will Need:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • OR, Bachelor’s degree and two (2) or more years’ experience in healthcare data and/or finance reporting
  • One (1) or more years’ experience in performance improvement (may be concurrent)
  • One (1) or more years’ experience with LEAN methodologies (may be concurrent)

Nice to Have:

  • Master’s Degree (MPA, MPH, MBA, or related degree)
  • Five years of experience in Health Care performance improvement
  • Formal PI training to green belt proficiency.
  • Nursing or other clinical experience
  • Project Management certification
  • Lean Certification
  • Prosci Change Management Practitioner certification
