Summary
To provide reproductive health services to clients in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations and Planned Parenthood Standards, policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Under the medical supervision and standing orders of the medical director of the clinic:
Advance Practice Nurse/Certified Nurse Midwife/Certified Physician Assistant will function in accordance to guidelines provided by the State Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing Examiners with regards to practicing in "sites serving medically underserved populations" and family planning clinics under contact with the Department of State Health Services.
Under approved standing orders the APN/CNM/PA-C will:
Assess the physical and/or mental health status of clients through eliciting and recording complete health and social history.
Perform physical examinations, laboratory tests, and interpret information collected in health assessment and evaluate health care provided and modify as needed. This will include the necessary follow-up to provide information to patients about abnormal test results and referral follow up.
Provide general health supervision, counseling and education to women throughout the life cycle regarding health promotion maintenance and regarding individual high risk conditions.
Formulate and initiate health care plan.
Initiate and maintain health records (in accordance with requirements of PPFA, funding sources and state law).
Refer deviations from normal to the medical director of the clinic or the appropriate health care professional.
Recognize and utilize ability to maintain close contact with associate medical director and/or medical director as needed.
Provide group and individual health education teaching sessions (as requested by supervisor)
Performs Research duties as assigned to the health center by the Research Director/PI including but not limited to recruiting and referring clients to Research, screening clients for eligibility, obtaining informed consent, collecting study-related biologic specimens according to package insert or study-specific instructions and documenting study data in ECW or paper as indicated.
Assist in surgical services as needed to include but not limited to; abortions, P.O.C.s, vasectomies, procedure room and recovery.
Provide all medical services required by protocol including but not limited to male STD exams, IM injections of antibiotics and other appropriate medications.
Ensure compliance with all PPFA and PPGC guidelines and approved standards.
Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Other Requirements:
Participate in clinic as a total team player, assisting where needed including but not limited to cleaning instruments, assisting with clinic flow by answering phones and interviewing, and helping staff stock supplies with needed.
Recognize a responsibility to work for continuous quality improvement in the overall function of the clinic by participating in annual clinical performance evaluations.
Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.
Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue cycle goals.
Adhere to affiliate policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and for telephone encounters, and the system for addressing client complaints.
Recognize a responsibility to work for continuous quality improvement in the overall function of the clinic by participating in annual clinical performance evaluations.
Correct and noted deficits raised by QA/RM audits to insure quality medical standards.
Work as assigned, including weekends and evening hours and at other clinic sites as needed.
Participate in community events that will raise the level of awareness of the community regarding the clinic or Planned Parenthood. Participate in the marketing and productivity issues of clinic as elected by the clinic director and contribute towards achieving the goals and objectives of the clinic.
Works to insure a professional team attitude in the clinic by dressing in a professional manner and providing all clinic staff with an example of professional decorum at all times.
Participate in orientation and training of newly employed clinical and support staff and clinic volunteers.
Act as a preceptor of APN/CNM/PA student from the various educational programs.
Keeps current on reproductive health care literature and interprets scientific studies based on knowledge of basic research principles.

Qualifications
Fifth year college or university program certificate
Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Good communication skills
Able to work with others in a team environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Recognition as an APN by State Board of Nursing and National Certification through appropriate body or recognition by the State Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant.
Eligibility for certification or certification as Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Midwife/Physician Assistant by the national certifying board.
Up to date CPR certification.
