This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.
The Manager position is an enterprise-wide role, responsible for the planning, coordinating and management of all activities related to civil engineering required to support the design of new Transmission and Distribution (T&D) substations and the modification and expansion of existing substations across the Eversource operational service territory in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Responsible for managing a 3-State team of Civil Engineers with resources located in each of the states. Provide guidance and oversight of the teams engineering processes/procedures and design deliverables to ensure quality of design product and compliance with industry standards, internal safety standards and operational practices. Manages civil engineering resources to ensure all commitments are properly staffed, the civil engineering scope stays within budget and meets schedule requirements as necessary to support company objectives. Additional functions under the direct management of this position include development of technical specifications for civil engineering services and civil related materials, equipment and construction services. Duties also include development of civil substation standards, underground civil distribution system design support and providing guidance/direction regarding (non-substation) civil engineering related needs across the Eversource organization.
Essential Functions:
Plans, coordinates and manages the work activities of personnel assigned to the Substation Civil Engineering group.
Manages the development of engineering and design strategies, civil substation engineering design criteria, standards and material/equipment specifications for T&D substation systems.
Leads the three-state department in standardization of civil engineering work practices, processes and procedures across the states to facilitate implementation of best practices as necessary to drive improvements to civil engineering processes, to improve the quality of deliverables and to maximize efficiency.
Represents Eversource before Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies and courts of law involving civil substation engineering and design matters.
Manages the preparation of regulatory approvals for T&D civil substation engineering related needs.
Manages the development of the substation civil engineering and design process, and maintenance of engineering, design, construction, equipment, and material specifications, standards, procedures, and guidelines.
Participates in various state, regional and national organizations involved in standardization of electric T&D substation materials & equipment, specifications and construction designs (e.g., ANSI, IEEE, EPRI).
Responsible for engineering and design content of all civil substation drawings. Ensures that drawings are up-to-date and modified to reflect changes in the field.
Assists with the annual plan and budget for substation operation and maintenance in collaboration with Electric Operations. Adjusts the plans, as needed, through incorporation of the results of root cause analyses and system changes.
Collaborates with other managers within Substation Engineering regarding all matters associated with Substation Capital projects.
Oversees the management and development of area staff. Implements programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans. Manages, selects, coaches and develops area staff.
Manages the staff by establishing and monitoring staff goals, policies, plans, programs, performance objectives and budget. Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop and implement programs and policies. Aligns department goals to meet corporate objectives.
Actively supports safety first culture as well as storm and /or emergency restoration assignments
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill: Requires a thorough knowledge of T&D substation design engineering and operations support, managing operating budgets and operating plans and working cross functionally.
Education: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA preferred.
Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years in related activities, including previous managerial experience.
Licenses & Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $157,000.00 to $175,000.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
Working Conditions:
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
