Position and Salary Information
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Legal Office Assistant in the Children, Youth, and Families Division. This position is located in Tumwater, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).

Legal Office Assistant Range 36 salary: $38,004 - $50,328
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:


  • Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.
  • Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

Division Information:


The Children, Youth, and Families Division (CYF) is comprised of 30 attorneys and 28 professional staff who together provide advice and representation to the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). Staff in each Attorney General’s Office location handle litigation for DCYF, and the CYF Division has the responsibility for doing so locally, as well as coordinating this work for the AGO statewide and advising DCYF leadership.

Duties



What does a Legal Office Assistant do?

We are looking for a Legal Office Assistant who wants to join our team in providing services to families that need assistance in the safety and care of their children. The general clerical work is high-volume and fast-paced, and the subject matter could range from juvenile dependency to a program-wide case, significantly impacting statewide budgets or programs. Our Legal Office Assistant provides general clerical support to the Juvenile Litigation section that includes, but is not limited to, processing mail, preparing and submitting vouchers, requesting certified orders from the court, filing court documents, assisting with retrieving weekly court orders, calendaring critical events or hearing dates, managing case documents, assisting Paralegals with trial preparations, providing limited backup support to the Paralegals, and archiving physical and electronic files. This Legal Office Assistant also provides backup assistant to the division’s administrative Legal Office Assistant that includes, but is not limited to, receiving and sorting mail, receptionist duties, managing division’s supply inventory and submitting supply orders, and maintaining division’s devices.

Qualifications



Desired Qualifications:

Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of six months of experience in a legal office environment.

Option 2: One year of legal office experience.

Option 3: A combination of two years of college education and/or relevant experience.

Option 4: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.
