SUMMARY: We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Director of Operations to join our civil construction and excavation team. The ideal candidate will bring a solid background in managing civil construction projects, outstanding leadership abilities, and in-depth knowledge of the bidding and preconstruction process. This role is essential to the successful execution and delivery of our projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Bidding and Estimation
  • Lead the bidding process for new projects, including preparation of accurate and competitive bids.
  • Collaborate with the estimation team to review and finalize project estimates.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to support bidding efforts.
Preconstruction Planning
  • Project scheduling.
  • Work with Executive management on equipment needs.
  • Ability to navigate pricing methodologies for specific contract requirements (Green Book, Caltrans, Unit Pricing, etc.).
  • Oversee preconstruction activities, including project scope development, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
Project Execution
  • Knowledge of SWIPP & BMP.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Monitor project progress, identify issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage project financials, including budget tracking, cost control, and reporting.
Client and Stakeholder Relations
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular project updates and addressing concerns promptly.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive working environment with all project participants.
Leadership and Management
  • Oversee the daily operations of the construction and excavation teams.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to project managers, supervisors, and other team members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Work with project management on risk aversion and change order opportunities.
  • Analyze cost overruns and provide feedback to estimating and project management.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION:
  • In-depth experience and understanding in utility excavations, heavy equipment, light concrete, asphalt placement, patch back, hardscapes, and other light civil disciplines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil construction and excavation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex civil construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Extensive experience in project bidding, estimation, and preconstruction planning.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Agility with multiple internal divisions.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
