The Director, Global Procurement –Packaging and Direct Materials develops, deploys, and drives the strategic plan for PCI Packaging spend totaling $300M+ supporting 15 global sites annually.  In this leadership role, you will lead and facilitate the strategic sourcing process, including negotiations and contracting, supplier management, and value creation (cost savings, working capital improvements, vendor managed inventory, supplier CI, supplier innovation)

 

This role will be directly lead the development and deployment of the Primary Packaging category in addition to overall matrix responsibility for savings delivery in the Direct Materials categories. 

 

Primary Packaging totals $100M+ and includes:  

-        Plastic and Glass Bottles, Vials, and Closures

-        Base and lidding, unprinted and printed foils and specialty lidding materials

-        Specialty Components such as syringes, vial adapters, and drug delivery devices (auto-injectors and pens)

-        A majority of the Primary Packaging spend is customer-directed, and as such it will be critical to work across functional areas (sales, technical, operations) and directly with our customers. 

 

Additionally, this role will be the strategic lead for secondary packaging (cartons, labels, leaflets), tertiary packaging (corrugate, stretch/shrink), and other multi-segment direct material categories. 

 

This role will report directly to the Global Head of Procurement and is a critical role on the Procurement Leadership team (PLT) with Matrix leadership responsibility across the 3 business segments and individual PCI sites.  There will be no direct reports for this role initially but will have matrix management responsibility across all sites. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and negotiate supply agreements to drive lower costs, establish rebate programs and improve payment and delivery terms.
  • Develop business continuity and risk contingency programs for key areas including the development of secondary and alternative suppliers, working closely with customers as needed for buy-in and the internal teams to drive validation work 
  • Leads negotiations and contracting to obtain maximum value and performance against project objectives and defined performance criteria (adherence to schedule and specifications, cost, etc.)
  • Facilitates all purchasing and supply chain planning activities required for given projects and monitors supplier performance against deliverables.
  • Regularly market tests spend through benchmarking and competitive events (RFQs), as part of category strategy development or as opportunities present themselves.
  • Drive Vendor Management to ensure the highest level of quality and service.
  • Lead, manage and align the Global procurement initiatives for PCI to define procurement strategies that are industry leading and harmonize across the PCI network.
  • Partner with key functions in all sites, including finance, estimating, business development, and operations to drive results that align to the site’s goals and objectives.
  • Develop innovative and bold commodity strategies to drive savings in new ways while managing, engaging and promoting continuous cost reduction and quality improvement efforts.
  • Proactively manage procurement projects through prioritization and active communication.
  • Be a liaison between vendors, business units, and operations teams, to deal with material or service issues in a timely fashion.
  • Leads the development and execution of sourcing strategies and policies for given spend categories.
  • Drive vendor management to ensure the highest level of quality and service.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Experience developing and managing supplier relationships, negotiation of complex contracts, and problem solving of both commercial and operational issues 
  • Market acumen, understanding global supply and demand impacts to underlying costs as well as familiarity with major market price indices in order to structure and optimize our commercial agreements as well as operate as subject matter expert internal and to customers
  • Packaging experience is a must
  • Experience developing supplier relationship management plans, facilitating QBRs, and partnering internally with stakeholders to drive strategies that address the needs of the business
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or 7-10 years related experience and/or training.
  • College Level Mathematical Skills
  • Intermediate Computer Skills: Ability to perform more complex computer tasks and has knowledge of various computer programs.          
  • Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.
  • Very High Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in math or diagram form and deal with several abstract/concrete variables.
  • High Standard of Report Writing
