Position Summary

Posting Note: There are 2 different schedules available - Nights, 6pm - 6am & Days, 6am - 6pm.

The Critical Care Pediatric Transport RN works in collaboration with the healthcare team, patient, and family, to deliver professional nursing care in a transport and critical care environment, that is appropriate to patient age and condition and that are in accordance with established guidelines and protocols, evidence-based practice standards, hospital goals, values and regulatory requirements.

Position Duties
  1. Completes nursing assessment of patient conditions consistent with age and condition including physical, psychological, social, developmental, and educational factors and is responsible for coordinating stabilization and management of patient’s condition; documenting assessments, communication, and care provided; while maintaining patient safety during transport.
  2. Continually evaluates patient response to care and initiates necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with established protocols. Documents patient progress in appropriate systems and communicates observations, assessments and care provided with healthcare team and families to ensure timely communication and understanding of patient health status, progress and ongoing needs.
  3. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing required activities within established parameters to ensure compliance with all applicable standards, regulations, and requirements.
  4. Supervises patient care activities of assigned team members and delegates activities appropriate to knowledge, skill, and competency. Provides timely feedback and review of care delivery to ensure maintenance of patient safety, infection control procedures, therapeutic environment, and team members’ performance level, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate
  5. Builds and maintains strong working relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers to provide individualized patient/family care and education while minimizing risks to the patient during transitions of care. Extends hospital resources into the referring communities through clinical care, education, and outreach.
  6. Participates in initial and ongoing training programs using defined, established criteria as required.
  7. Maintains clinical competency though direct patient nursing care in the neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care, cardiac intensive care, and the emergency department as assigned.
  8. Participates in teaching and quality improvement reviews.
  9. Collects, monitors, and reports on quality-of-care outcomes and measures; provides input into the continuous evaluation and improvement of internal quality and safety processes, procedures, and performance measures.
  10. Ensures compliance with clinical policies, procedures, and best practices to minimize the risk of harm to patients and providers. Ensures compliance with all safety rules and regulations while on ground transports.
  11. Promotes the Phoenix Children’s Critical Care Transport Program at public relation events and in routine interactions with the community, referring facilities, hospital staff, EMS, patients, and family.
  12. Serves on department and organization wide committees as directed.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
