Job Description

Job Title: Cafe Manager

Department: Dining Services

Reports To: Vice President of Sales and Events

Job Summary: The Fernbank Cafe is a family-friendly casual café open daily that serves fresh sandwiches, pizzas, snacks etc. to museum patrons. This position manages all aspects and duties related to the daily operations of the Cafe, as well internal small event catering, monthly Fernbank After Dark museum event, and other museum-sponsored events as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience in café management, a love for food, and a desire to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Major Functions:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Cafe, ensuring quality service standards are met and the customer experience is exceptional, with a focus on customer service, product quality and cleanliness.
  • Monitor, maintain, and record accurate inventory levels, ensuring that products and supplies are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Hiring, onboarding and supervising café team members, which includes training and daily supervision.
  • Ensures staff complies with assigned shifts, attendance policies and safety protocols.
  • Provides leadership to the Café team for superior customer service, quality and cleanliness while embracing the Museum’s culture and values to achieve the mission and vision.
  • Understands, enforces, and adheres to company policies, operations, and procedures.
  • Manage Café budget to ensure net profits meet or exceed established goals, including establishing profitable price points, implementing daily controls, Purchase Orders, and vendor payments.
  • Development and implementation of menus for Cafe, Fernbank After Dark, and various museum event catering.
  • Address customer concerns or complaints related to the Café.
  • Knowledge of all preparation methods, ingredients, portion size for all menu items offered.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure effective cost management.
  • Secure food donations from vendors for Fernbank-sponsored events.
  • Analyze sales reports and customer feedback to inform Café menus and sales strategies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and implement new techniques and menu items as needed.
  • Ensure that the Museum is in full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations to include health regulations, hour and wage regulations, age restrictions, fair employment practices, ADA, OSHA, and any other appropriate regulations required for the proper operation of the cafe.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
