The Maryland Public Service Commission is recruiting a full-time Special Assistant.
The Commission regulates public utilities and certain passenger transportation companies doing business in Maryland. The Commission regulates gas, electric, telephone, water, and sewage disposal companies. Also subject to the jurisdiction of the Commission are electricity suppliers, fees for pilotage services to vessels, construction of a generating station and certain common carriers engaged in the transportation for hire of persons.

The Maryland Public Service Commission is seeking one full-time Special Assistant to assist the Executive Secretary with the operations of the Public Service Commission, including agenda setting and fiscal and legal support.
- Performs legal support services for the Office of General Counsel.
- Support the Office of Executive Secretary with tracking cases and issues before the Commission.
- Oversee, update, and distribute a bi-weekly status report to senior staff of the Commission.
- Assists with agenda setting.
- Assists the Fiscal Division with Accounts Receivables, procurement/inventory, and other projects as needed.
- Serves as a backup to other staff in the Office of Executive Secretary and Office of General Counsel.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and understanding of electric, gas, water, and telecommunications industries.
- Experience handling COMAR and/or statute.
- Experience in a legal and/or professional setting.
- Experience in involving legal support, administrative support, and/or fiscal/accounting support.
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
