Job Description

All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
911 Call Taker Cadets are responsible for attending all required training classes and actively engaging in all classroom and hands on activities. 911 Call Taker Cadets will receive training that will prepare them for work as a full-time 911 Call Taker for the Kansas City Kansas Police Department. All 911 Call Taker Cadets are a representative of the Kansas City Kansas Police Department just as any other employee. It is expected that Cadets will conduct themselves in a professional manner while at the Dispatch Center and also while in their personal time. Cadets may the opportunities to assist 911 Call Takers and Dispatch staff in civilian activities to include community engagement and recruitment events. This position will also provide an opportunity to learn entry level skills such as customer service, work ethic and self-discipline. Participants will earn $15 per hour plus school credits towards graduation. Classes will meet 3-4 times per week for around four hours a day.
Minimum Qualifications:
Senior (12th grade) at any Wyandotte County high school (Bonner Springs, Turner, Piper, USD 500 schools) in good standing academically and behaviorally.
Type 35 words per minute
Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Recruitment for these positions will begin on September 16, 2024 and conclude on October 4, 2024. The following dates are mandatory:
October 14 - 18, 2024: Typing test appointment at Dispatch
October 21 - 25, 2024: Interviews at Dispatch
October 26 - November 15, 2024: Background investigations
December 2 - 11, 2024: Drug screen appointments
December 13, 2024: Final offers
December 30, 2024: Orientation
January 16, 2025: Program starts
